Cheapest Live TV Streaming 2026: YouTube TV vs Sling vs Fubo vs IPTV

Quick answer: The cheapest live TV streaming in the US in November 2026 is free: an antenna for local channels plus free services such as Sling Freestream. Among paid services, Frndly TV starts at $8.99 a month, Sling Essentials and Sling Select at $19.99, and Philo at $25. The full-lineup services cost far more: YouTube TV is $82.99, Fubo Pro $88.99, DirecTV Entertainment $89.99 and Hulu + Live TV $99.99. IPTV services such as SmartVPro cost less, from $14.99 a month or $64.99 a year, but they come with tradeoffs explained below.

Live TV streaming means watching scheduled channels (news, sports, cable networks) over the internet instead of through a cable box or satellite dish. In 2026 the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive way to do it is huge. A single household can pay under $110 a year or well over $1,100 a year for roughly the same evening of TV, depending on which channels it really needs.

This guide compares the cheapest live TV streaming options side by side using prices we checked on each provider’s own website on November 3, 2026, or in dated 2026 news reports where the provider page did not show a price. We then group them by household type (sports fans, local news watchers, families, single viewers) and show yearly totals, because a $20 difference per month becomes $240 over a year.

We are SmartVPro, an IPTV service, so we also explain where our own plans fit. That part is clearly labeled as our offer, and we are upfront about what IPTV does not guarantee compared with licensed services such as YouTube TV or Sling.

SmartVPro plans at a glance

If you already know you want a low-cost IPTV option, here is our full price list. IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) simply means TV delivered over an internet connection to an app, rather than over cable or satellite. Each SmartVPro plan is a one-off payment for the whole term, with no monthly bill in between.

Term1 connection (USD)2 connections (USD)
1 month$14.99$25.99
3 months$29.99$46.99
6 months$39.99$69.99
12 months$64.99 (about $5.42/month)$117.99
SmartVPro’s own prices as of November 2026. A “connection” is one device streaming at a time.

You can compare all terms on our SmartVPro subscription plans page, or test the service first with a 24-hour trial for $2, set up through WhatsApp or email. We would rather you check playback on your own TV and internet connection before paying for a longer term.

What is the cheapest live TV streaming service in 2026?

The answer depends on whether you need local broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) and live sports. Services that carry both are expensive because the networks charge them high carriage fees. Services that leave out locals and sports, such as Frndly TV and Philo, are the cheapest live TV streaming choices with a real channel lineup. The table below lists the regular monthly price of each main plan, before promotions, taxes or regional sports fees.

How we checked these prices

We read each provider’s public plans page on November 3, 2026: YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling, DirecTV, Philo and Frndly TV. Fubo’s plan pages load prices by location, so for Fubo we used its help center notice on the 2026 price change and a July 17, 2026 CableTV.com report.

Some provider pages contradict themselves. Frndly TV’s headline says “from $6.99” while its plan list starts at $8.99, and YouTube TV’s FAQ mentions a $64.99 sports plan while its main page lists a $71.99 Sports + News plan. Where that happens we use the price in the plan list, and we recommend you confirm at checkout. Prices for live TV streaming change several times a year, so treat every figure here as a November 2026 snapshot.

The free tier: antenna and free streaming channels

An over-the-air (OTA) antenna is still the cheapest live TV streaming companion you can buy, even though it does not stream at all. It picks up free broadcast signals from local stations, which usually include ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS affiliates in most metro areas. The FCC’s antenna guide says you do not need a special “HDTV” antenna, that the antenna must handle both VHF and UHF channels, and that you should run a channel scan after setup and periodically afterward.

Free streaming channels fill in the rest at no cost. Sling’s own site describes Sling Freestream as “600+ free live TV channels” with free DVR, and ad-supported apps such as Pluto TV and Tubi offer similar free channel grids. These are mostly reruns, movies, news clips and niche channels. They are a good base layer, but they do not replace ESPN, cable news networks or major live sports.

Which is the cheapest live TV streaming option for sports fans?

Sports are the main reason the cheapest live TV streaming plans and the priciest ones are so far apart. ESPN, regional sports networks (RSNs, the local channels that carry most NBA, NHL and MLB games) and national game broadcasts carry the highest fees. If sports matter to you, the right plan depends on which leagues and which teams you follow.

Cheapest way to get ESPN

Sling Essentials is the cheapest live TV streaming plan with ESPN we found. Cord Cutters News reported on April 9, 2026 that the $19.99 plan includes ESPN and ESPN2 plus Disney Channel, Freeform, MeTV and other channels, limited to one stream at a time. Sling’s current site also lists an Essentials & Select combination starting at $34.99 a month, which adds the Select lineup and allows up to four streams.

Sling Select, at $19.99, carries FS1, NFL Network, FX and Fox News, according to Light Reading’s August 2025 launch report. At launch, local ABC, NBC or FOX could be added in select markets for $5 to $10 a month. Check Sling’s site for the current local add-on price in your ZIP code, because that detail may have changed since 2025.

Football, basketball and regional sports

For NFL Sundays, the cheapest setup is usually an antenna for CBS and FOX games, plus a low-cost plan for ESPN’s Monday Night Football and NFL Network. Sling Essentials & Select at $34.99 covers ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 and NFL Network in one bill. Out-of-market games are a different product (NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube), so check that separately if you follow a team from another city.

If you need your local RSN for NBA, NHL or MLB games, the cheapest live TV streaming plans usually do not carry it. DirecTV says regional sports networks are included with its Choice package ($94.99) or higher, and its MySports genre pack ($64.99, 20+ channels with locals) can add RSNs through the MyHome Team mini-pack for $19.99 a month. Fubo charges a separate regional sports fee, which its help center lists at $15.99 a month in markets with NBC regional sports channels.

YouTube TV’s Sports + News plan is $71.99 a month with 50+ channels and no entertainment or family networks. Fubo Sports, also built around sports and news, is $64.99 after the 2026 increase. Both are cheaper than the full YouTube TV or Fubo Pro plans, but neither is cheap by any standard. Over 12 months, a $65 to $72 sports plan costs between $780 and $864.

What is the cheapest way to get local channels and news?

For local news, weather and network shows, an antenna beats even the cheapest live TV streaming plan on price. Before you buy one, enter your address in the FCC’s DTV Reception Maps tool, linked from the FCC antenna guide, to see which stations reach your home and how strong each signal is. Homes in valleys, dense downtowns or rural areas far from transmitters may get only some stations.

If an antenna will not work where you live, the cheapest paid route to locals is a small genre pack. DirecTV’s MyNews pack is $44.99 a month (10+ channels with locals included, varying by market). Sling Blue includes local channels in some markets for $45.99. YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and Fubo Pro all include locals in most areas, but at $82.99 to $99.99 a month they are not budget choices.

For cable news without locals, Sling Select carries Fox News, and Sling sells a News Extra add-on for $6 a month on top of Blue. Philo and Frndly TV are not good fits for news viewers, because their lineups focus on entertainment, lifestyle and classic TV. Local station websites and apps also stream many newscasts for free, which is worth checking before paying anything.

What is the cheapest live TV streaming for families and kids?

Families have two cost drivers: kids’ channels and the number of screens that can play at once. A plan that allows only one stream can cause arguments the first night two people want to watch different things. That is why the cheapest headline price is not always the cheapest live TV streaming deal for a family.

  • Frndly TV Premium ($12.99): 50+ family-friendly channels, four screens at once and unlimited DVR kept for nine months. No locals, no sports, no major kids’ networks such as Disney Channel.
  • Philo ($25 or $33): 70+ channels, three screens and unlimited DVR kept up to one year, according to Philo’s site. Strong on entertainment and lifestyle channels.
  • Sling Essentials & Select ($34.99): Disney Channel and Freeform from Essentials plus Select’s channels, with up to four streams.
  • DirecTV MyKids ($20.99): a 10+ channel kids pack listed on DirecTV’s genre pack page. Check the channel list for your area before you buy.
  • Hulu + Live TV ($99.99): the priciest option, but it bundles Disney+ and ESPN in their separate apps, which matters if you already pay for those.

Our view: a family that mainly wants kids’ cable channels and a few shows can usually do well with an antenna plus one cheap pack such as Sling Essentials & Select or Frndly Premium. Paying near $100 a month only makes sense if the bundled extras replace subscriptions you already have.

What is the best YouTube TV alternative if prices keep rising?

If you are leaving YouTube TV for the cheapest live TV streaming deal you can find, start with the numbers: its base plan is $82.99 a month with 100+ channels, unlimited DVR space and three streams at once. Price increases over the past few years have pushed many households to look for a YouTube TV alternative. The right replacement depends on which part of YouTube TV you actually use.

Sling vs YouTube TV: what you give up to save money

Sling Orange & Blue costs $60.99 a month, $22 less than YouTube TV, or $264 less per year. In exchange, you get fewer channels, locals in only some markets, and a limited DVR. CableTV.com’s October 2026 comparison lists Sling’s DVR as 50 hours, with an unlimited upgrade for $5 a month. If you mainly watch ESPN and a few cable networks, Sling Orange alone at $45.99 covers a lot for $37 less per month than YouTube TV.

The table below matches common YouTube TV use cases with the cheapest live TV streaming replacement for each. Prices are monthly and regular, as checked on November 3, 2026.

If you subscribed to YouTube TV recently, also note its promotional pricing. On November 3, 2026, YouTube TV’s welcome page offered new users $59.99 a month for the first two months, then the regular $82.99. Promotions like this lower the first bill, but the yearly cost is set by the regular price.

Hulu + Live TV, Fubo and DirecTV as alternatives

None of the other full-lineup services is cheaper than YouTube TV at regular price. Hulu + Live TV is $99.99 with ads ($109.99 for the ad-free on-demand version), but it includes Disney+ and ESPN access, and it allows two screens at once. Fubo Pro rose to $88.99 in 2026, with the increase tied to NBCUniversal channels being added in each market. DirecTV’s Entertainment package is $89.99 with 90+ channels, and its Choice package is $94.99 with 125+ channels and RSNs.

Where does IPTV fit, and what does SmartVPro cost?

On price alone, IPTV is often the cheapest live TV streaming route. IPTV providers sell access to a large list of live channels and on-demand titles that you play through an IPTV player app, usually with an M3U playlist link or Xtream Codes login. M3U is a playlist file format, and Xtream Codes is a login system many player apps use to load channels, the EPG (electronic program guide) and on-demand libraries. If the concept is new to you, our plain-English explainer on how IPTV works covers the basics.

This section describes SmartVPro’s own offer, not independent evidence. SmartVPro’s plans start at $14.99 for one month on one connection, and the 12-month plan costs $64.99, which works out to about $5.42 a month. A two-connection yearly plan is $117.99. Payment is a single charge per term through Venmo, PayPal, Amazon Pay or Google Pay.

What SmartVPro advertises: 42,000+ live channels, 125,000+ on-demand titles, PPV channels, 500+ dedicated sports channels, hundreds of Spanish-language channels, catch-up and EPG, and picture quality up to 4K where the source supports it. We claim 99.9% server uptime and offer 24/7 support via WhatsApp and email. We do not list specific networks in this article; you can browse the full SmartVPro channel list to check whether the channels you care about are there.

What IPTV does and does not guarantee

Licensed services such as YouTube TV, Sling and Hulu have contracts with the networks they carry. That gives you predictable channel availability, official apps on every major device, and blackout rules that are clear in advance. IPTV services, including ours, do not offer that same guarantee. Channel lineups can change, and streaming quality depends on the provider’s servers, your internet speed and your device.

  • Price: lower than any full-lineup licensed service, especially on yearly plans.
  • Reliability: depends on the provider. Big live events can stress any server, so read our guide to fixing IPTV buffering before game day.
  • Apps: you use third-party player apps rather than an official network app.
  • Legal status: depends on whether the content is licensed, which is explained in the legal section below.

If those tradeoffs work for you, see SmartVPro’s 1- and 2-connection plans. If you are unsure, the $2 one-day test lets you check stream quality on your own setup first. Eligible purchases are covered by our 3-day refund policy, explained on our refund policy page.

What the numbers tell you

For a single viewer who does not need sports, the cheapest live TV streaming setup is an antenna plus Frndly TV, at about $108 a year. For a sports household, the gap is wider: an antenna plus Sling Essentials & Select costs about $420 a year, while a full YouTube TV setup with the Sports Plus add-on (YouTube TV’s NFL RedZone add-on) costs over $1,100. That is a difference of roughly $700 for the same NFL Sunday on local channels.

Families feel the screen limits most. Sling Blue allows three streams at $551.88 a year, and YouTube TV allows three at $995.88. On our side, SmartVPro’s two-connection yearly plan is $117.99; if you need more than two devices at once, our multi-device IPTV guide explains how connections work. Remember that IPTV prices are lower partly because they do not come with the licensing guarantees of the services above.

Hidden costs to add to any estimate

Several charges never show up in the headline prices of even the cheapest live TV streaming plans. Fubo’s regional sports fee is $15.99 a month in some NBC Sports markets, adding about $192 a year. CableTV.com reports DirecTV’s regional sports fee can reach $19.99 a month. Taxes vary by state and city. A streaming device (Fire TV Stick, Roku, Apple TV or Chromecast) is a one-time cost if your TV does not have the apps built in.

Internet is the other cost. Live TV streaming uses a lot of data, especially in HD or 4K, so a household with a capped plan could face overage charges. Check your provider’s data policy before dropping cable. If you bundle internet and TV today, ask what the internet-only price will be, because some providers raise it when you cancel TV.

How do you switch from cable or YouTube TV without losing anything?

The safest way to move to the cheapest live TV streaming setup is to plan the switch in order, so you never go a weekend without the channels you watch most. These steps work whether you are leaving cable, satellite or an expensive streaming bundle.

  1. List your must-have channels. Write down the 10 to 15 channels your household actually watches in a normal week, plus any team or league you follow. Ignore the rest of the lineup.
  2. Check antenna reception. Use the FCC’s DTV Reception Maps to see which local stations reach your address. If you get strong signals, locals are covered for free.
  3. Match channels to the cheapest plan. Compare your list against the table above and pick the lowest-priced plan that covers your must-haves. Use each provider’s ZIP code lookup for locals and RSNs.
  4. Test before you cancel. Use a free trial or a short paid trial during a week that includes a live event you care about. Watch on the TV you use most, at the time you usually watch.
  5. Save your DVR recordings. Watch or note any recorded shows you want to keep; cloud DVR recordings do not transfer between services.
  6. Return equipment and cancel in writing. Return cable boxes to avoid fees, cancel online or by chat, and keep the confirmation. Check your next bill for an early-termination or equipment charge.
  7. Review after 60 days. If you never opened an add-on, drop it. Most streaming plans are month to month, so you can adjust any time.

Setting up IPTV on a Fire TV Stick or smart TV

If you choose IPTV for some of your viewing, setup takes a few minutes on most devices. You install an IPTV player app, enter the login or playlist details the provider sends, and wait for the channel list and EPG to load. Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is the most common device for this; our step-by-step Fire TV Stick walkthrough covers app installation and the settings that reduce buffering.

Checklist: what to confirm before you pay for any live TV service

Use this checklist before you sign up for any service, including the cheapest live TV streaming plans. It takes about ten minutes and avoids most surprise bills.

  • The regular monthly price after any promotion ends, and the date it starts.
  • Whether your local ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC stations are included for your ZIP code.
  • Whether your regional sports network is included, and what fee applies.
  • How many streams can play at the same time, at home and away.
  • DVR limits: hours of storage and how long recordings are kept.
  • Supported devices, including your TV’s built-in apps.
  • Cancellation and refund terms, in writing.
  • For IPTV: trial availability, support channels and whether the content is licensed.

IPTV is a delivery technology, not a type of content. Many licensed services use internet delivery too. Whether a given IPTV service is legal to use depends on whether the provider holds the rights to distribute the channels and programs it streams. US copyright law protects TV programs, and unauthorized public performance or distribution of copyrighted content is not legal.

We do not claim that SmartVPro’s channels are licensed, and we do not claim that using any IPTV service is legal. Facts first: licensed services such as YouTube TV, Sling, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, DirecTV, Philo and Frndly TV have carriage agreements with the networks they carry. Our view: before choosing any IPTV provider, read our explainer on IPTV legality in the US and decide what level of risk and uncertainty you are comfortable with.

Safety basics apply to every service. Pay only through payment methods that offer buyer protection, such as PayPal. Do not share account logins publicly. Download player apps from official app stores or the developer’s own site, and avoid sideloading unknown files from forums. If a deal looks unrealistically cheap or asks for unusual payment methods, skip it.

Our recommendation: the cheapest live TV streaming setup for each household

Based on November 2026 regular prices, here is how we would build the cheapest live TV streaming setup for common US households. These are our recommendations, not independent rankings.

  • Budget single viewer: antenna plus free channels (Sling Freestream, Pluto TV, Tubi). Add Frndly TV at $8.99 if you like classic TV.
  • Local news and network shows: antenna first. If reception is poor, DirecTV MyNews ($44.99) or Sling Blue ($45.99) where locals are offered.
  • Sports fan: antenna plus Sling Essentials & Select ($34.99). Add an RSN option (DirecTV MySports with MyHome Team, or Fubo) only if you follow a local NBA, NHL or MLB team.
  • Family with several screens: Frndly Premium ($12.99, four screens) or Sling Essentials & Select (four streams), plus an antenna.
  • Want everything in one app: YouTube TV at $82.99 is the lowest-priced full-lineup service we found at regular price.
  • Lowest yearly cost with a large lineup, accepting the tradeoffs: an IPTV plan such as SmartVPro’s 12-month option at $64.99.

If the IPTV route fits your household, you can choose a SmartVPro term that suits you or start with the $2 SmartVPro trial to test it on your own TV during a live event. Either way, compare the result against the cheapest live TV streaming plans above before you commit to a longer term.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest live TV streaming service in 2026?

As of November 3, 2026, the cheapest live TV streaming options are free: an antenna for local channels and free services such as Sling Freestream, Pluto TV and Tubi. Among paid services, Frndly TV starts at $8.99 a month, Sling Essentials and Sling Select at $19.99, and Philo at $25. None of these low-cost paid plans includes local channels by default.

Is Sling cheaper than YouTube TV?

Yes. Sling Orange or Sling Blue costs $45.99 a month and Sling Orange & Blue costs $60.99, compared with $82.99 for the YouTube TV base plan as of November 2026. The tradeoff is fewer channels, locals in only some markets, a smaller DVR and, for Orange, one stream at a time. YouTube TV includes locals in most areas and three streams.

How much is Hulu + Live TV per month in 2026?

Hulu’s own site listed Hulu + Live TV at $99.99 a month with ads on November 3, 2026, including Disney+ and ESPN access in their separate apps. The ad-free on-demand version was $109.99, though live channels still play with ads. The plan includes 100+ channels, DVR recordings kept up to nine months, and two screens at once.

What does Fubo cost now?

Fubo raised prices by $15 a month in 2026 as NBCUniversal channels were added in each market. According to Fubo’s help center, Pro and Essential are $88.99, Elite is $98.99, Ultimate is $113.99 and Deluxe is $118.99 a month. Fubo Sports is $64.99. A regional sports fee of $15.99 a month applies in some NBC Sports markets.

What is the cheapest way to watch live sports without cable?

For most fans, an antenna for CBS, FOX and NBC games plus Sling Essentials & Select at $34.99 a month covers ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 and NFL Network. If you need a regional sports network for NBA, NHL or MLB games, look at DirecTV Choice or MySports with MyHome Team, or Fubo, which cost more.

Can I get local channels for free?

In many areas, yes. An over-the-air antenna receives local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS stations for free after a one-time purchase. The FCC recommends checking its DTV Reception Maps for your address first, using an antenna that receives both VHF and UHF, and rescanning for channels after setup and periodically afterward.

Is IPTV cheaper than YouTube TV?

IPTV plans are usually much cheaper. SmartVPro, for example, costs $14.99 for one month or $64.99 for 12 months on one connection, versus $82.99 a month for YouTube TV. IPTV does not offer the same guarantees: channel availability, picture quality and reliability depend on the provider, and legality depends on whether the content is licensed.

Is IPTV legal in the US?

IPTV is a technology for delivering TV over the internet, and many licensed services use it. Whether a specific IPTV service is legal depends on whether it has the rights to the channels and programs it streams. Unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content is not legal. Check how any provider sources its content before you subscribe.
